Party for Patty: Friday, December 15, 2023 at 5:30pm at Stone Valley Arts.
Having a bookstore in our town and region, especially one that has such an enormous array of used books, is an invaluable asset to our community. It says a great deal about what we value. Reading is, as the saying goes, "fundamental," and Patty McWilliams has heroically kept Hermit Hill Books alive for us, as she searched for the right next-generation of caretaker proprietors of this gem.
As an INDEPENDENT bookstore, Hermit Hill Books is the rare proverbial David surviving against the onslaught of the Goliaths of our time. It has been in business since February, 1997. Having thrived enough to outgrow its first space in Middletown Springs, Patty moved the store to its current Poultney Main Street location on September 1, 2001. The "new" building is an 1870s storefront, so not only has Patty McWilliams given us the gift of a huge variety of books right on our doorsteps, she has also preserved a beloved historic space, which lives and breathes its wonderful character for our Main Street and its economy.
Please join us as we celebrate Patty McWilliams upon her retirement.
Following the party, people are invited to stay for part II of the evening, which is a screening of the beloved Christmas classic, "It's a Wonderful Life" at 7:00pm. Let's watch how Clarence the Angel earns his wings.
