'This Place' Lantern Workshop at River Arts for Arthur’s Main Street
River Arts in Morrisville is hosting a lantern workshop with artist Gowri Savoor in conjunction with her public art piece 'This Place', to be installed at Arthur’s Main Street Project.
Gowri Savoor's permanent sculpture will be located in the Arthur’s Main Street redevelopment in downtown Morrisville. “The artwork is evocative of a dwelling merging with its environment.” Gowri said, “Using the commonly published interpretation of Lamoille – ‘la moelle’ or ‘the marrow’, This Place is intended to invoke a sense of connection – with the community, with the environment and with the buildings in which we inhabit.”
Lamoille Housing Partnership believes in River Arts’ mission to enrich community through the arts, so reached out to them to collaborate with Gowri on a workshop that would engage folks in the area with the new public artwork and new affordable housing at Arthur’s.
“The lantern structure that the participants will be making at our workshop will reflect the form of the permanent sculpture at Arthur’s, which will tie nicely into the concepts of 'relationship with the environment, place on the land, dwelling and community’.”
This Place is a free Lantern Workshop and will be on September 27th from 10:00am to 3:00pm, at River Arts in Morrisville. There will be a limit of 20 participants (min. age 4 and those under 8 should be accompanied by an adult). All tools and materials will be provided. If you have a pair of hand-held pruning shears, please do bring them along, you’ll find it useful to have a pair of your own.
