Opening tonight! The foreigner at the Lamoille County Players in Hyde Park. This hilarious show unfolds when Froggy, a British munitions expert, comes to rural Georgia for maneuvers and brings along Charlie, his pathologically shy buddy. Charlie, seeking refuge from his own troubles back home, is relegated to staying at a small hunting lodge out in the Georgia woods while Froggy goes on detail with the troops. With Charlie's social anxiety rising, and his natural shyness in the mix, Foggy hits upon an answer. Charlie will become the foreigner, a man from an undetermined country, who speaks in a language, all his own. Over the course of the show, Charlie becomes a mix of Borat and Latka from the old TV series Taxi.
The cast of this play is truly wonderful with Chris Demars as Charlie, the role of a lifetime for him. Long time LCP player John Dunn is smarmy David, the corrupt minister. Kim Anetsberger takes a star turn as the young debutante, David's fiancé Catherine. Judith Mathison as Froggy, newcomer Betsy Sherman as Betty the lodge owner. Khalil Bridgman cleans up as the slow but sweet Ellard, and Nate Beyer as Owen the worst of the bad guys. Come and see yourself. Head on down to Hyde Park as the weather gets dreary and gray and laugh all your troubles away.
