Middlebury Community Wind Ensemble Winter Concert

Come hear Midd Winds in their annual winter concert in Bristol. Conductor Jerome Shedd has chosen a program that might be entitled "Shop Local." The group will salute the centennial of Middlebury's Ilsley Library by playing "Ilsley's March," a 1907 composition by Middlebury musician T.L. Eells and written in honor of Col. Silas Ilsley, whose legacy funded the construction of the library building. Another march honors another Vermonter: "Madlyn's March," by Ken Bagley (conductor Shedd's first cousin) recognizes their grandmother Madlyn "Nanny" Shedd by incorporating "I Love You Truly" into the composition. She loved singing that old song and she loved marches. Midd Winds horn player Jack Clay has written a fine transcription of the Debussy piano prelude "La Cathédral Engloutie (The Sunken Cathedral)" especially for this performance. Our very own oboist Gwen Delgadillo (whose parents also play in the group) will sing two Gershwin favorites. Finally, the group will present three movements of Ferde Grofé's "Grand Canyon Suite," transcribed for this performance by Jerry Shedd.

Can't make it on Wednesday night? We've got a second concert Friday evening, December 8th at 7:30pm at Mahaney Arts Center at Middlebury College, sponsored by the Middlebury College Music Department.
