Governor Hunt House Festival of Trees will support Vernon's new community center
You'll have a chance to take home a fully decorated tree, along with a variety of gifts stacked underneath, at the first annual Festival of Trees at the Governor Hunt House, Vernon's new community center.
The festival takes place Dec. 1, 2 and 3. The hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 1, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2, and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 3.
The Governor Hunt House is located at 322 Governor Hunt Road, across the street from the Vernon Elementary School.
Admission is $5 per person, with a maximum of $15 per family.
The festival has more than 20 sponsors — mainly businesses and organizations — who are providing fully decorated trees, plus gifts in the form of merchandise and gift certificates.
Attendees will be able to buy raffle tickets, and place them in containers located at each tree, for a chance to win both the tree and all the merchandise associated with it. Raffle ticket pricing begins at $1 per ticket, but the price drops down for quantities of 25 or more (down to 45 cents per ticket for 200 tickets).
Santa Claus will be in attendance, available for photo opportunities with children of all ages. On He will arrive on Friday at 4:30 p.m. when there will be a tree lighting with carol sing. Santa will be available for photos that evening from 5 to 6 p.m. Both Santa and Mrs. Santa will drop by on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m.
The Vernon Recreation Department's Home for the Holidays craft fair takes place the same weekend across the street at the Vernon Elementary School. (Hours are Friday 4-8 p.m. and Saturday 9-3 p.m.) Attendees are urged to take in both events.
Parking is available in the Hunt House lot, along Governor Hunt Road, and at the elementary school.
Proceeds from the Festival of Trees will help to pay for the community center's annual operating expenses. Please contact us at govhuntcc@gmail.com with any questions. Website: governorhunt.org.
