The Vermont Fiddle Orchestra will be celebrating it's 20th anniversary with an end-of-season concert next Saturday, 2nd December, in Barre. Led by Addison's Peter Macfarlane, the orchestra will perform a program of tunes in various traditional styles, mostly composed by the leaders of the VFO over its first two decades.
Sarah Hotchkiss, who in 2003 started the VFO, the first statewide fiddle orchestra, will be the guest soloist. She will be accompanied by her husband, John Mowad, who composed the tunes they will play with the orchestra, including one which he wrote for the VFO's 10th anniversary. The orchestra will also honor its previous director, David Kaynor, and current assistant director, Susan Reid, by performing several of their tunes. And some of Peter's compositions will round out the program, including one written specifically for the 20th anniversary.
Admission is by donation, and all proceeds will be contributed to the flood relief programs in Montpelier and Barre.
If enjoying a great evening of traditional-style music played by a mix of fiddles, cellos, guitars, mandolins, banjo, flutes and whistles, nearly 50 musicians in all, sounds like your idea of fun, we'd love to see you there.
