Courageous Conversation #5: on Addiction

Past event
Nov 28, 2023, 7 to 8:30 PM

On Tuesday, November 28 at 7:00 PM, Newfane Congregational Church will host its fifth and final public conversation of the year with a focus on the spiritual roots and communal scope of addiction with Susan Avery. Susan is the author of the memoir Addicted: Our Strength Under the Influence (published in February 2023 under the pen name, Annie Augustus Rose), which vividly recounts her family's harrowing, decades-long journey through the physical, emotional, and spiritual ravages of narcotic addiction.

Born and raised in Brattleboro, Vermont, Susan describes herself as a devoted mother and grandmother, a first-time author, a cancer survivor, a community activist and a very good listener. Her family's devastating experience of addiction led Susan to her current role as facilitator of the local Nar-Anon Family Group, in which capacity she has helped numerous families navigate the challenges of addiction since 2000.
