Turning Hinesburg Teal for Ovarian Cancer Awareness

Past event
Sep 18, 2014, 7 to 8:30 PM

Teal ribbons adorn our village in the hope of making people aware of ovarian cancer and its often silent symptoms. This year, ribbons can also be seen in the towns of Bristol, Charlotte, Richmond and Shelburne.

There is no regular screening test for ovarian cancer so women need to know the symptoms. With early diagnosis, treatment is 90-95% percent effective, but most women aren’t diagnosed until it’s too late.

There will be an informational meeting in Hinesburg on the evening of Thursday, September 18th, at 7:00 p.m. , at the Osborne Parish Hall of the United Church on Route 116. Kathy Colquhoun, who has made the journey from symptoms to diagnosis to treatment to becoming cancer free, will be coming to us from the Corinne Feller Memorial Fund, an organization from New York whose goal is to raise awareness and educate people on the symptoms and lack of testing for ovarian cancer. Kathy speaks at health fairs, schools, church groups, and any groups (large or small) who would like to hear more about this silent killer. Dr. Cheung Wong, Medical Director, Gynecologic Oncology, Fletcher Allen Health Center will be sharing his insights regarding the data around ovarian cancer, its treatment, and the research he is involved in. The third presenter is Dr. Kim Boyman of Vermont Gynecology who will share with her from her perspective as a treatment provider and diagnostician.

ALL ARE WELCOME. Please join us for what we hope will be a truly informative evening.
