Aliceheimer's and paths toward healing during the losses of dementia
Monday, November 13 from 6-8PM
Main Street Landing Film House, Burlington
Join us for a screening of the Town Hall recital preview performance of selections from *Aliceheimer's*, a new chamber opera by Vermont composer Erik Nielsen and librettist Dana Walrath in conjunction with panel perspectives around current and evolving efforts locally and abroad to help those living with Alzheimer's and other dementias, their careers, and loved ones.
"Fifteen years ago, when my mother, Alice, and dementia moved from New York City to live with me in Underhill, never did I imagine that partnering her through this journey of loss would also become a time of magic, healing, and laughter. *Aliceheimer's,* a graphic memoir, honors our journey and has become, through the gifts of composer Erik Nielsen, an incredible chamber opera," Dana Walrath.
Following the screening and a discussion about the creation of Aliceheimer's with Dana and Erik, the audience is invited to learn more about dementia, local resources, and support for care partners from a panel discussion moderated by Dr. Tom Weigel, Chief Medical Officer of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Vermont featuring Dana, Erik and:
- Pamela Smith, a Vermonter living with Younger Onset Alzheimers and serving on the Early Stage Advisory Committee for the national Alzheimer's Association
- Megan Polyte, Policy Director for the Vermont Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association
- Jeanne Hutchins, Executive Director of the Center on Aging at Larner College of Medicine; Manager, UVMMC Dementia Family Caregiver Center
This event is free and open to the public.
