Farm History Tour - Benefits Halifax Historical Society

Past event

When I bought this land in 2005, there was a hunting cabin (in not very great shape) on an old dry-laid stone foundation. Lifelong Halifax residents remember visiting this cabin, along with the Luther Ray horse farm at the other end of Thurber Road.

In this slow-paced walking tour, I'll share what I've learned about the history of the land.

--We'll visit remnants of barns and other farm structures from the 1800s.
--We'll stand next to beautiful stone cairns and wonder about who built them, and why.
-- We'll come all the way to the present with interactive boulder sculptures created this century.

Halifax was founded in 1750 but not settled till 1761. What was it like here then? Between Vermont history and reading the forest floor of today, we'll share stories about the past, and build a connection to the forest here today.

Anyone who gets tired of the history talk is welcome to visit with the goats, enjoy our two tree swings, or sit in an Adirondack chair and soak up the forest. We have bocce and other lawn games for kids.

We will serve hot mulled cider and light refreshments.

Suggested $20/adult donation (kids free), with 100% of proceeds to benefit the Halifax Historical Society, which is raising $10,000 for a new roof.
