Greetings Neighbors!

Please don't forget about the Selectboard meeting tonight starting at 7pm. Around 8pm, during the "Administration" Section, my proposal to stop work on a Wastewater Treatment Plant in the Lower Village until there has been more analysis, discussion, and meaningful public input is on the agenda.

Many of us on Raven Ridge and the Lower Village have raised concerns with plans to put in a Wastewater Treatment Plant. I have spoken to many people who had no idea such a thing was even being considered by the Selectboard. We have many concerns about why this is necessary (what problem are we trying to solve?), the plot of land chosen (which includes a wildlife corridor and wetlands), the construction and destruction of other lands/roads needed to build all the infrastructure, and the lack of any information about the cost and how much this will raise taxes for all of us – not just for the massive construction needed, but its maintenance, including the need for the town to maintain the sewage systems of everyone who would be connected. We also want to make sure this is what the town wants - do we all want there to be more commercial development in the Lower Village (what we have been told is one of the main goals)?

We strongly believe that there needs to be MORE public input about whether people want the Selectboard and Planning Commission pursuing this project before any more funds are spent on it.

Please make your voices heard! If you have concerns and agree we should pause work until there has been more analysis and public discussion or if you think enough has been done and you want to proceed, please let them know - either by attending and giving public comment when my proposal comes up, or emailing your comments (townhunt@gmavt.net). Whether you agree with the proposal or not, ALL public input is important!

As a reminder, here was my proposal:

I am asking the Selectboard and Planning Commission to stop work on the project and not move on to step 2 (which I believe is final design analysis) unless and until the following two things have done:

1) Further analysis by the Selectboard, Planning Commission, and Working Group to determine if the project (which was first begun over 10 years ago) still matches with town priorities, has data backing up its need, is consistent with the vision for the town, and, based on all those things, still has the support of the Selectboard and Planning Commission

And 2) if you go through that exercise and still continue to support it, that it still does not move forward until there is real, meaningful public conversation and support for the project, especially from those directly impacted in the lower village.
