Compassion Fatigue Workshop and Discussion
November 13th, 6:30 PM
Brattleboro - Brooks Memorial Library
Do you ever experience frustration and feel you are losing your compassion for those struggling with addiction? You are not alone. As part of their continued work to respond to the ongoing crisis of substance use disorder, the Community Substance Use Response (CSUR) is hosting a free conversation on Compassion Fatigue with Don Cuerdon, a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in private practice in Brattleboro, Vermont. The workshop will be held at the Brooks Memorial Library in Brattleboro on November 13th at 6:30 PM. An open discussion will follow.
Cuerdon specializes in memory reconsolidation therapy for reducing the emotional charge behind the traumatic stress that drives many mental health disorders, including substance use disorders, anxiety, depression and, of course, PTSD.
"Compassion fatigue can develop in anyone who works or volunteers in a helping profession, such as healthcare, social work, first responders, education, law enforcement, or the military'" says Justin Johnston, Director of Center & Programming at Turning Point of Windham County, "however, fatigue can also affect anyone who is regularly exposed to the suffering of others, such as friends and family members of people who have experienced mental health, trauma and substance use".
This workshop will address ways to set boundaries, develop coping mechanisms, and seek support when needed. By working together, CSUR believes we can reduce compassion fatigue, addiction, and stigma and create a more compassionate and supportive society for everyone.
Snacks will be provided. For more information, please contact Justin Johnston at 802-257-5600 or jjohnston@turningpointwc.org.
CSUR is a collaborative effort that includes Voices of Hope, Turning Point of Windham County, the AIDS Project of Southern Vermont, Building a Positive Community, Grace Cottage Hospital, Meetinghouse Solutions and others in the community working together throughout the continuum of care to ensure that substance use prevention, harm reduction, treatment, and recovery services reach our rural communities in Windham County.
