Nov 4, 2023, 10 AM to 2 PM

Are you searching for your ancestors? Would you like to get started finding your roots? Are you stuck and need some motivation to move forward? Would you like to learn about what other amateur genealogists have been doing? A November 4 Genealogy event may just have some answers for you. It's free and open to all.

Members of the Barre Genealogy Group, in cooperation with the Barre Historical Society, have organized a Genealogy Fair on Saturday, November 4, 2023, from 10 am to 2 pm at the Old Labor Hall, 46 Granite St., Barre, VT 05641. Due to recent flooding, there may be no elevator access to the building.

Tables divided by ethnicity or country of origin will be staffed by people who have been seeking information about those ancestors. There will also be tables devoted to using various online tools, "weeding" your attic, and a special table for kids about beginning steps in building a family tree.

In addition to the interest tables, three special half-hour programs will be offered on the hour with Vermont experts:
10 am - Getting started with genealogical research with Bob Murphy
11 am – DNA: What's the Big Deal? with Ed McGuire of the Vermont French-Canadian Genealogical Society
Noon - Weeding your attic" with Elizabeth "Wiz" Dow and Lucinda Cockrell.

The Barre Genealogy Group meets on the third Thursday of most months at 11 am at the Aldrich Public Library, 6 Washington St., Barre. Beginners and seasoned genealogists are welcome. For more information, please contact Marianne Kotch at (802) 476-4185 or email mkotch731@gmail.com.
