Interior Storms Community Build - Nov. 2-7

Past event
Nov 2 to 7, 2023

Hi All,
As the Duxbury Energy Coordinator, I wanted to inform you of a low-cost community weatherization organization called Window Dressers. They build removable interior storms, which are one of the most cost-effective projects you can do to reduce energy use and improve thermal comfort in your home during the heating season.

The program utilizes community built airtight interior storms that are inserted in your window frames seasonally. The community approach greatly reduces the cost compared to the commercially available equivalent.

Window Dressers started in ME in 2010 and has refined the product and process over the last 13 years. They now serve ME, NH and VT. This year 24 community builds are occurring across Vermont.

Mad River Valley/Middlesex is running a window dressers program again this year. My goal is to get hands-on experience this year, and have Duxbury join the Mad River Valley build next year.

If you want to get some hands-on experience and help your neighbors read on:

"Come help community members and local energy coordinators build low-cost window inserts so neighbors can be cozier this winter and reduce energy use. The event will take place Nov. 2-7 at the Waitsfield UCC Village Meeting House. Recipients of insulated window inserts pay a modest fee and also volunteer to further reduce costs. However, many elderly participants are unable to volunteer.

So if you have a few hours to spare, please sign up for a slot at www.windowdressers.org under Community Builds/Vermont/Mad River Valley or at this link - https://signup.com/client/invitation2/secure/1012624820031/true#/invitation. Shifts are available mornings, afternoons, and evenings during our Window Dressers Community Build. It's a very fun, hands-on volunteer-driven project!

What happens at a build? The wooden frames have already been cut, and volunteers are needed to finish them off with tape, poly, foam and glue. You'll be trained by a volunteer shift supervisor at the beginning of your scheduled shift. All you have to do is show up and enjoy the camaraderie while you carry out simple tasks and enjoy delicious snacks. No experience necessary.

Interested? Sign up at the link above and choose a shift that fits your schedule. If you would rather talk to someone directly, feel free to email our Volunteer Coordinator, Cooper Reid, at a.cooper.reid@gmail.com."
