Many of our neighbors have older homes with single-pane, or old, leaky windows that they can't afford to replace. So they suffer from cold, drafty rooms and high energy bills (which creates much additional pollution).
The Window Dressers program was created to provide customized, affordable interior window inserts - sort of like storm windows for the inside. These keep folks warmer and more comfortable, and saves them quite a bit on fuel. The frames are easy to insert and can be popped out and stored during the warmer weather. They make a BIG difference; several families in our town are already happy owners of these.
Weeks ago volunteers fanned out and measured the windows of the folks who signed up. Those measurements were sent to Maine, where sets of kits were constructed, labeled and then shipped back to us for assembly by volunteers.
But we still need a few more volunteers to help with the final assembly of the kits, adhere double-sided tape to the frames, and apply the plastic sheeting.
The kits are easy! Most of the assembly is like packing a box for mailing. You don't have to operate a screw gun if you don't want to! No saws, loud noise, or sawdust. The atmosphere is convivial & fun. Free lunch! (I'm making one of them.)
Work slots are available for Friday 11/3 - Tuesday 11/7, mornings and afternoons, at the Universalist Church on Route 100 in Waitsfield -- on the left, just before Bridge St.
Please consider helping out. Btw, our Town Hall (talking about old and drafty!) is getting a dozen and we shouldn't expect Sarah to chip in and do them all, should we? "Do It For Sarah! Rah! Rah! Rah!"
