There have been several recent posts about the proposed construction project at Rumney School and I wanted to make everyone aware that the School Board is planning a presentation and community discussion of the proposed construction project on September 18 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Rumney (433 Shady Rill Road). Postcard invitations have also been mailed to all houses in-town.
The meeting will feature an overview of the project by school board members and project architects from Black River Design. We value your input! And this is an important chance to offer guidance on the project before it is put to a vote.
Regular readers of Front Porch Forum will hopefully recall regular postings asking for community members to offer input on the design process. And, for the past 15 months, a number of committed volunteers from across the Middlesex community, working as the school’s Facilities Committee, have helped refine the proposed project. The new proposal addresses key heating, ventilation, roofing, kitchen and other issues critical to preserving the community’s investment in its most valuable built infrastructure. With the help of architects and community input, the price tag for the proposal has been reduced by roughly $800,000 (or 18%) from the proposal that Middlesex voters turned down in May 2013.
The meeting will be informal, with time for small-group conversations so that everyone can speak their minds and get their questions answered. Please note: This is the board’s last opportunity to receive your input so that we can make any clarifications to the plan before the ballot article is officially warned. Middlesex voters will vote on the bond article on Election Day, Tuesday, November 4.
