Film Series Continues: The second movie in our Sunday evening film series at the Westminster West Congregational Church is Johnny Cash! The Man, His World, His Music, a 1969 documentary film directed by Robert Elfstrom. The film follows Cash in his home and on the road playing concerts including one in the Tennessee State Prison and at Rosebud, the Sioux Reservation in South Dakota. It was filmed in the Cinema Verite style using portable cameras and sound equipment that were being developed at the time. The crew captured the now legendary recording sessions between Cash and Bob Dylan at the Columbia Recording Studios in Nashville in 1968. They also followed Cash back to his childhood home in Dyess, Arkansas and to Wounded Knee in South Dakota, the site of the 1890 massacre of members of the Lakota tribe. The Carter Family and Carl Perkins join Cash on stage in the concerts. Local filmmaker, Alan Dater, who was part of the three-person crew who made this film, will attend the screening. Show time is October 29 at6:30, at the church, by donation. Light refreshments available.
