This coming Thursday & Friday afternoon Stowe Rotary will be collecting used tires for resale or recycling to help our neighbors have safe tires and/or heat their homes this winter! It works like this: bring your used tires to the Stowe Events field parking lot on Weeks Hill Road. An officer from the VT DMV will inspect them and if they are good for at least one more year of driving, we'll ship them off to Barre for re-sale on Saturday. If they are too old or too worn, we'll charge $5 per tire and send them off to recycling ($10 for truck tires and car tires on rims). All the proceeds will be used to provide fuel assistance to neighbors in need; the overall goal for this year is at least $50,000. Not only that, but it keeps old tires out of our woods and streams. (For context, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that a recent dredging operation pulled 3,000 tires from a two-mile section of the Schuylkill River. Yikes!)

If you need tires, the sale will be held at the Vermont Granite Museum in Barre on Saturday from 8:00am to noon. Prices vary by tire size but none are more than $30.

We'll have help provided by students from the Green Mountain Technology & Career Center Thursday and Stowe HS Friday, so lets keep the kids busy! Hope to see you there--thanks in advance.
