Dear Ward 6 neighbors,
I hope you all are enjoying a good weekend. Tomorrow's Council agenda will include:
We will begin our meeting with a work session on District Energy. District Energy provides steam infrastructure to serve potential customers with renewable thermal energy. This work session is an opportunity for Burlington Electric and other parties who are involved with this project to present the project and the financing terms. We are not voting on this project tomorrow evening.
After the work session, we will have a presentation on Burlington's plan for the Solar Eclipse 2024. On April 8, 2024, Burlington will experience a total solar eclipse, a rare and fascinating phenomenon. The last total eclipse in Burlington was in 1932. The next one will be in 2106. Burlington is in the direct path of the eclipse. It is estimated that as many as 150,000 people may visit Burlingon the weekend prior leading up to the Eclipse. This is a very exciting natural wonder and we have begun planning for this event months ago. We will get an update tomorrow evening.
Our deliberative agenda will include:
• The appointment of a new City Assessor, Joe Turner.
• A public hearing and vote on ordinance changes with regard to setbacks, temporary structures, and some technical amendments.
• The approval of a supplemental agreement to lease with the Vermont Air National Guard. I encourage you to take a look online at the documents. There is a FAQ which clarifies the need to extend the lease and the $51 million in most green infrastructure that will be invested by the federal government. This is vastly different from other bases and is in line with many of the goals of the City's Net Zero Energy plan.
• We have one resolution for our consideration regarding maintaining open and accessible NPAs.
