Preview of Sept. 8 City Council Meeting

Past event
Sep 8, 2014, 6 to 10 PM

Dear Neighbors,

This coming Monday, the City Council will convene its first of two meetings for the month of September. After a wonderful summer, the Council is back to our normal routine of either two or three meetings per month.

The Council will be holding a work session at 6pm downstairs in City Hall in Room 12 to discuss several Executive Session items. We will be discussing the Champlain College/Eagles Landing settlement, the Reproductive Health Care Buffer Zone Ordinance and collective bargaining. At 7pm, we will move upstairs to Contois Auditorium to convene rest of the Council's evening agenda.

Following a very brief Local Control Commission meeting, we will begin our Council meeting with annual reports from the Fire, Parks and Recreation and Public Works Commissions. After voting on an indoor entertainment permit for a Burlington business, we will be voting to approve the creation of a Ward 8 NPA. We will also be voting on a resolution to bring back the Audit Advisory Committee which will detail the charge of the committee. We will then have a communication from the City Attorney on Burlington Telecom. At this point in the meeting, we may recess our Council meeting to convene the Board of Tax Abatement which will be very brief and to also convene a meeting of the City Council with Mayor Presiding to vote on a commission appointment.

Following this recess, we would then reconvene the Council meeting. We will then have council committee reports, comments from councilors and the Mayor.

If there is the need to continue the Executive Session items we began at 6pm, we will go back into Executive Session to finish those discussions.

Please keep in mind that you are welcome to come to a council meeting and speak to the Council on any subject you wish during our Public Forum which begins at 7:30pm.

Clickable agenda items can be found on the City's website:

Please keep in mind that at all Council meetings are televised live on Channel 317 on Burlington Telecom.

As always, I welcome your questions and concerns. Please email or give me a call over the weekend or on Monday. I hope you have a great weekend.

All my best,
Karen
