In August, the Town installed a backup power generator at the Town Hall. The existing transfer switch, worth appx. $350, was incompatible and had to be swapped out with a different one. The Calais Emergency Management Committee reached out to the three town stores to see if they could use this item. The East Calais Community Trust and Adamant Coop said they cannot. The Maple Corner Community Store is working on installing a generator to keep the coolers and cash register operating during power outages and can use the switch.
