Join us for the community read of Tracy Kidder's book Rough Sleepers at Brooks Memorial Library on Monday, October 23 and again on Wednesday, November 8, both at 7pm. One of the keynote authors this past weekend at the Brattleboro Literary Festival, Kidder's book tells the story of Boston doctor Jim O'Donnell and his colleagues as they worked with thousands of patients who were homeless. Readers travel with O'Connell as he navigates the city streets at night, offering medical care, socks, soup, empathy, humor, and friendship to some of the city's most endangered citizens. Brooks Memorial Library, Groundworks, Healthworks, the Downtown Brattleboro Alliance, and the Brattleboro Literary Festival will all contribute to this open discussion moderated by Eileen Parks from Academy School.

Brooks Memorial Library has copies available for loan (provided by the Friends of Brooks Memorial Library), whether you are a cardholder or not. Both sessions are free and do not require registration. While we would love for you to read the book, there is no assigned or suggested amount of reading, participants can read at their own pace. Copies of Rough Sleepers are available for purchase via area bookstores.
