CANAAN, VERMONT
For the past 140 years, this postcard perfect town in northeastern Vermont has been the home of Grace Church, standing tall with its historic steeple and original church bell that has rung throughout town for every church service, wedding, church supper, historic anniversary, Palm Sunday and Christmas throughout the years. This month the congregation will celebrate its 140th anniversary, holding a special celebration to mark the occasion.

This white clapboard New England church was built by the people of the community using timbers from the nearby Northeast Kingdom forests. The interior woodwork was carved by local woodworkers, some who later formed the original Ethan Allen Furniture Co. right here in Canaan. The magnificent stained glass windows remain in mint condition, flooding the sanctuary with colored light every day of the week.

Lovers of classic New England architecture and Vermont's legendary fall foliage will enjoy driving for the celebration, which takes place Sunday, September 21st at 11 a.m. In addition to home-baked refreshments, the 100+ year old organ and piano will be played by professional musicians sharing hymns that have been sung for the past 140 years.
