Join the Windham World Affairs Council on Friday, October 20, 6:30 pm, at 118 Elliot, 118 Elliot St., Brattleboro VT for this important event:

US-China Relations:'Old' Friends to the 'New Cold War'

After decades of active engagement between the US and China, the US-China relationship has recently been characterized by conflict and mutual suspicion. How did we get here? Are we in a "New Cold War"? This talk will describe the trajectory of the US-China relationship and discuss prospects for future conflict and cooperation.

Dr. Sara Newland (she/her) seeks to understand the behavior of local officials as domestic public servants and as actors in international relations. Her research on local governance and public service provision has been published in China Quarterly and Governance. Her new work focuses on subnational diplomacy, and in particular on the role that state and local officials play in the complicated relationships between the U.S., China and Taiwan.

The Windham World Affairs Council's (WWAC) mission is to build community engagement, dialogue, and resilience by helping people better understand our world's issues and problems. We believe involving citizens in such events will help them make informed choices in elections and their lives, contributing to a more peaceful, livable world. WWAC is an independent, nonpartisan organization with an all-volunteer, local board. We proudly maintain all events free of charge to the public. A $10 donation is suggested, but no one is turned away.
