GMC Walk in Woodford to Waters Hill Cemetery

Past event
Oct 19, 2023, 11 AM to 1 PM

Join the Green Mountain Club on an historical hike.

Walk on some old logging roads and trails in the Woodford area. Walk includes a stop at the old abandoned Water's Hill Cemetery which contains about 35 graves and was used from 1794 to 1861. We will walk 30 minutes into the cemetery, stay 30 minutes there for people to look at the gravestones and give you the opportunity to do a gravestone rubbing. We will bring materials to do the rubbings. Then there will be an option to either return (30 minutes) or do a loop to extend the walk to about a 60 minute return. This is a beautiful time of year to be walking in the woods and imagining what life was like for the people who lived here in the early 1800's.

Wear hiking shoes, bring water and lunch/snacks.

Distance: 2-3 miles - Elevation Gain: 500 feet

The Green Mountain Club, Bennington section, maintains all the local hiking trails, Long Trail, Vermont section of the Appalachian Trail, and offers many outdoor events. We announce our events through our free public Meetup site. You do not need to be a member of the Green Mountain Club to attend this event, but we ask that you join our Meetup group and sign up for this walk. The purpose of signing up for an event is so that the GMC trip leaders can manage the numbers attending.
