This is the second ride organized by the new group Bikeable Burlington Now. (Find us on Facebook, or email me for more info!)
With a lot of recent talk about the New North End Corridor study and the need for a safe bikeable North Ave, the timing is perfect to hit the streets in numbers and ask the Mayor and City Council to support change and support it NOW. The morning of this ride, the Mayor will be at The Bagel on North Ave, and that evening, the North Ave. recommendations will be presented at the TUEC (Transportation, Utilities & Energy Committee) meeting. City Council will vote on the proposed changes September 22nd.
The ride will depart from the Merola’s, at the intersection of Plattsburg and North Ave at 8am. Please arrive early to put signs on your body and bike. We’ll ride all the way down North Ave to North St., and then loop back on Lakeview Terrace to end at Scout & Company.
What’s a Bike Train, you ask? Bike Trains in LA and other cities are simply groups of people commuting to work together. Think of our rides as a solidarity bike commute – bringing riders from other parts of the city to join commuters from that area to highlight a route that’s particularly unsafe to bike. We plan to space people on bikes every 30-60 seconds, so we can ride safely with traffic and create a strong visual presence without a "critical mass" style blockage. The goal is to be visible during rush hour and ride safely with traffic, but convey strength in numbers with a positive message that reaches a large number of people.
If you're unable to make this ride, stay tuned for more rides in Burlington and beyond. Join our Facebook Group, (https://www.facebook.com/groups/519506491526901/) and feel free to share the Facebook Event (https://www.facebook.com/events/734270519942986/). Thanks!!
