I've been watching videos of this young Moroccan band on YouTube, and I'm really looking forward to seeing and hearing them live and in person at Chandler on Friday evening. Their music is driving and soulful, the band leader is a powerhouse, and the stringed instruments they play in place of guitar and bass only have three strings, no frets, and are alternately plucked and played with a bow. Cool!
Music is a language without borders, and even when the words and instruments are unfamiliar we can be moved, enriched, and inspired. As part of Chandler's mission to support deep engagement between visiting performers and our community, Bab L'Bluz gave a performance at Sharon Elementary School today (I hear the kids loved it!), will present a matinee at Chandler for students from all of the Randolph area schools tomorrow, and then on Friday evening they'll be rocking the main stage for the rest of us to enjoy.
If you want a sneak preview, pop down to Kuya's at One Main this evening, where they will be joined informally by Oum Kamar and Billy Wylder in a pop up jam starting around 7:00. Then come join us for an awesome evening of music in the Chandler Main Hall.
