A logging operation is happening at the Sayward Town Forest this winter. The goals of the upcoming logging operation are to shift the forest to a more natural state by removing part of a softwood plantation to release native tree growth. This harvest will also make the forest more resilient to Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) by reducing the number of ash trees in the forest and provide opportunities for new ash trees to become established.
This upcoming walk will be the 3rd walk in a series of events which are providing an opportunity for forest landowners and members of the community to engage and learn about forest management at the Sayward Town Forest. During this walk we will cover working lands, how logging jobs are coordinated and laid out, how goals for a forest are chosen and then implemented through active management, how to work with a forester and a logger to achieve your goals for your forest and much more!
AJ Follensbee Windsor/Orange County Forester and the Randolph Conservation Commission will lead the walk through the Sayward Town Forest. No registration is required to join the walk. We will cover around 1.5 miles on relatively gentle terrain and conclude at dusk. The walk will start at the parking area at the Sayward Town Forest. Bring some sturdy boots and your questions about forest management!
