On Saturday, October 14 our region will experience a partial solar eclipse. Craftsbury Schools and Craftsbury Public Library, with consultation from Dr. Doug Arion, Professor Emeritus of Physics and Astronomy at Carthage College, Executive Director of Mountains of Stars, and co-founder of the Galileoscope, will hold a viewing on the Common between noon and 2:30PM. Two telescopes with a solar filter will be set up in order to view the partial eclipse, there will be some eclipse glasses available to borrow, and a volunteer will be there to help with the equipment and basic questions regarding the eclipse. Everyone is welcome to stop by the Common and use the telescopes and glasses to view the eclipse safely! This event will also be livestreamed at https://www.exploratorium.edu/eclipse
This is a great opportunity to practice for the total solar eclipse which is happening April 8th. Our region will be in the "path of totality" for this rare event! Plans for the total eclipse include a school visit and an evening public program about the event by Doug Arion. This will take place on Wednesday, March 13. There will be another public viewing opportunity for this event with telescopes available; the library will be passing out eclipse glasses for safe viewing of the eclipse; and we will also have the event live streamed on the big screen.
