The primary goal of Trees for Streams is to improve and protect water quality and habitat by establishing woody vegetation in riparian zones. Riparian zones are the areas along the edges of rivers, streams, lakes, and other water bodies. Creating vegetated riparian zones helps improve terrestrial and aquatic habitat and minimize bank erosion by holding soil in place. They also help trap, store, and filter nutrients from runoff during high-flow events and keep waters cooler for fish.
