Learn by building a small stained glass panel using the traditional tools and techniques for creating a Leaded Stained Glass window as seen in historic periods such as High Gothic, Carpenter Gothic, Victorian, or Art Nouveau. This Beginner/Intermediate weekend class is a great addition to shop savvy creators with basic hand tool abilities who want to broaden their horizons.
Create a zinc frame, infill with cut and shaped colored glass using lead channel called "came" to join glass pieces by following the "lead lines" of a pattern. Then solder the joints to create the armature, and finish of by grouting with the same lime and linseed based recipe used since antiquity.
Be it a traditional design or one of Frank Lloyd Wright or Contemporary offerings students will be guided thru an example project, or two, to demonstrate the construction process by picking a pattern to build an 8"X10" sample panel to take home.
Safety is our top priority and awareness of sharp glass and how to correctly handle it along with the awareness of using lead and how to build using safe practices and cleaning procedures.
Please do not take this class if pregnant or breast feeding.
