Join us Tuesday night! Jamie Franklin, curator at the Bennington Museum since 2005 will discuss the exhibition Haunted Vermont, currently on view at the Bennington Museum through the end of the year. It explores the deep, dark corners of our collective and personal psyches and real-world encounters with the mysterious and unknown. Vermont has long been associated with otherworldly intrigue: from accusations of witches in Pownal and vampires in Manchester in the 18th century; to the widespread popularity of Spiritualism and a belief in the ability to communicate with the dead during the 19th century; and the Bennington Triangle, with its tales of missing persons and cursed land in the 20th century. Add to this mix Shirley Jackson, perhaps the greatest writer of gothic fiction in the 20th-century, who lived and worked for most of her career in North Bennington, and you get a macabre mix of stories that combine fact, fiction, folklore, and mythology.
