Be a part of Cornwall history!! Come learn about one of our countries heroes.
On Oct 4th, there will be a memorial service and a placement of a Memorial stone for Pvt Silas Stone who died of his injuries at the Battle of Saratoga on October 9, 1777. Pvt Stone is buried in an unknown plot in an unmarked grave somewhere near the Army hospital along the Hudson River where he died 246 year ago. Because his family lived here at one time, and because his wife Elizabeth is buried at Cornwall's South Cemetery, it is fitting that there should be a Memorial stone placed next to Elizabeth.
The Memorial service takes place at the Cornwall church beginning at 2 pm . Pvt Stone's decendants will be presenting historical information and the Vermont Army National Guard will present military honors. Music provided by bagpiper, Andy Collins. The DAR building next to the church will be open for visiting and refreshments beginning at 1:00 pm and the community is invited to attend this historical event.
