With two workdays under our belts we have about half of the skiable terrain at Dutch Hill in Readsboro ready for winter. Join us this Sunday, Oct 1, from 9 am – 3 pm as we continue to clear blowdowns and cut back brushy growth at the former ski area, which is now part of the Green Mountain National Forest. Since 2017 DHASH (a chapter of the Catamount Trail Association) has been working under the authorization of the US Forest Service to reopen the grown-over ski slopes for do-it-yourself backcountry skiing. Other types of non-motorized winter recreation are allowed and encouraged as well. For example, the former Meadow ski slope, visible from the road, is a popular sledding hill.
Meet at 9:00 in the parking lot on Route 100 in Readsboro at the base of the former ski area. You'll need a hard hat and work gloves, and can borrow from our stash if you don't have your own. Ditto work tools – bring your own favorite, or borrow one of ours. Note that Forest Service regulations mean you can't use a chainsaw on this project unless you have USFS certification.
