On Thursday, October 5 take 30 minutes out of your busy schedule to celebrate the freedom to read a banned or challenged book in the front window of the Village Square Bookseller. Doing so, you'll be partaking in a 40 year tradition of supporting the freedom to seek and to express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular. Please contact the Rockingham Library to sign-up for this event by calling (802) 463-4270, emailing programming@rockinghamlibrary.org or stopping by the Library at 65 Westminster St. The books made available to read in the bookstore window have all been targeted for removal or restriction in libraries and schools. By focusing on efforts across the country to remove or restrict access to books, Banned Books Week draws national attention to the harms of censorship. The playful window frame designed and painted by Frank Hawkins will catch passersby's attention. And the fact that You are reading a banned or challenged book will tickle most anyone's fancy.
