Hello neighbors!

I want to invite you all to a free block party event in downtown Burlington this Friday, September 22nd celebrating World Car Free Day, hosted and organized by Vermonters for People-Oriented Places (VPOP).

World Car Free Day is a globally recognized celebration of car free living, and a day where everyone is encouraged to step outside of their comfort zone and try getting to work by taking the bus, walking with friends to a night out, or cycling to the grocery store. It's also a day to imagine a future for our cities with more diverse and affordable transportation options, and the livability that comes with that.

As for the event itself:

World Car Free Day Block Party
Friday September 22nd, 4PM to 8PM
Saint Paul Street @ City Hall Park

We're extending City Hall Park into the (Saint Paul) street! From 4PM to 8PM, Saint Paul Street will be closed to vehicle traffic and open to people, food vendors, information booths, free bike tune ups, e-bike test rides, street murals, street performers, and more. Bring a beach or camping chair, bring a cooler full of soft drinks, bring some friends, bring some lawn games (corn hole or big jenga anyone?), bring your bike and roller skates, and hang out with your neighbors and imagine a city that is more People-Oriented.

In addition to the block party, follow our Instagram @vpop802 for a car-free scavenger hunt that starts 24 hours before the event. Complete as many tasks and visit as many locations as you can, and then turn in your list at the party for entries into our raffle. We have a slate of donated prizes lined up from local businesses, residents, and even sports teams, and the drawing will begin at 7PM, so make sure you've turned in your scavenger hunt list and are at the party by then. The hunt goes live at 4PM on Thursday.
