Here are this weeks guided hikes through the Moosalamoo National Recreation Area!

Thursday - 09/21/2023 - Rocky Point Interpretive Trail - start time 11am
This hike follows the Silver Lake trail and connects to the Rocky Point Interpretive trail, which circles the lake and provides interpretive signage throughout discussing the ecology of the surrounding area. The trail is 5.3 miles as has some steady inclines, so is considered a moderate hike. Meet at the Silver Lake Parking area on Rt. 53. Bug spray and closed-toe shoes are recommended

Friday - 09/22/2023 - Rattlesnake Cliffs - start time 11am
The trail to Rattlesnake Cliffs is 3.2 total miles and fairly steep, so is considered a moderate to challenging hike. This hike reaches a scenic view at the top of Rattlesnake Cliffs, and passes the Falls of Lana on the Silver Lake trail. We will be learning about the Peregrine Falcons that nest there during the summer mating/breeding season, as well as doing some bird watching/identification along the hike using the Merlin app.

Saturday - 09/23/2023 - Hogback Mountain Loop - Hike starts 1pm
This hike is considered easy/moderate and is a 3 mile loop starting and ending at the Blueberry Hill Outdoor Center. A good hike for fall foliage, we will be identifying and discussing the dendrology of Vermonts' native trees.

Sunday - 09/24/2023 - Voter Brook Trail - Hike starts 11am
Starting at the Moosalamoo Campground, the Voter Brook overlook is accessed using a portion of the North Branch Trail. It is about 2.4 miles, and should take about an hour to complete. This will be a good hike for foliage viewing, and some watercolor supplies will be provided for anyone interested in taking the time to paint the views at the top. There is also a parking area very close to the overlook on the forest service road. If anyone is interested in painting but is unable to complete the hike, please let me know and I the hike can meet you at the Voter Brook parking area after the hike start time.
