Windham World Affairs Council Annual Galbraith Lecture
There's new energy, a new look and forward-thinking programming at the Windham World Affairs Council (WWAC). Its Fall 2023 season of monthly talks, member salons and a new multi-year public initiative will launch with a fundraiser and defining lecture "Is the American Century Over?" by Amb. Peter Galbraith on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at 6:30 pm at the main hall of Centre Congregational Church. Meg Mott, 'Constitution Wrangler' and Professor of Politics Emerita will moderate. A fundraising reception will follow, including a raffle showcasing many valuable gifts from Brattleboro's small businesses, including gift certificates to Peter Havens, TJ Buckley's and Martocci's. Ambassador Galbraith's lecture will encapsulate the trajectory of US power over the past several decades. American power was unparalleled at the end of the 20th Century; Democracy and its economy looked secure with record budget surpluses on track to eliminate the entire national debt by 2009. Russia, China, the EU and other world powers seemed generally inclined to accept American leadership in support of a more cooperative world order.
