"The Capture and Rescue of Remember Baker"

Roger Tegart, the current president of the Bennington Historical Society, recounts the March 1772 capture of Ethan Allen's cousin by the Yorkers and the ultimate rescue by the Green Mountain Boys.

251 years ago, in March of 1772, tensions between Yorkers and the Green Mountain Boys escalated. In the middle of the night, Yorkers broke into Remember Baker's home, attacked him and his wife Desire, capturing Remember Baker. The presentation will cover his capture by the Yorkers and then his rescue by the Green Mountain Boys.

The EAHM would like to thank M&T Bank, AAPR Vermont, and North Country Credit Union for their generous support.

The Homestead Monthly Lecture Program is free (the recommended donation if you are financially able is $10). Covering diverse topics, each lecture is followed by Q&A with the presenter.
