Out of the Blue: Sources of Creative Inspiration

From where is creative inspiration derived? Some of our creative influences are clearly traceable from our work to one source, while others seem to come out of the blue. Furniture designer and maker, Sam Norris, will discuss the inspiration behind several of his pieces and share a range of sources that led to the lines, textures and wood choices found in other work. He will also explore the places other designers and makers look for creative inspiration – some of which are unexpected.

Sam Norris builds furniture in a retired brush factory now full of artists and craftspeople in Burlington, Vermont. He is a graduate of the Fine Woodworking Program at the College of the Redwoods. His award-winning work, which is inspired primarily by architecture and sculpture, has been shown in galleries in California, Maryland, and Vermont. He is a member of the New Hampshire Furniture Masters Association, and one of three Furniture-Masters in Residence at the Vermont Woodworking School.

This lecture will take place at Yestermorrow's campus on Route 100. It is free and open to the general public.
