House Concert Sept. 9!

The first one was so fun, when we had the chance to host another great group of musicians for a house concert, we jumped at the chance.

Ruthie Dornfeld (fiddle), Jeremiah McLane (accordion) and Owen Marshall (banjo, bouzouki and guitar) are a dynamic trio that performs a wide array of traditional music from the British Isles, France, and Scandinavia, as well as North and South America. Below are their bios for anyone who is interested.

The concert is at our house at 2809 North St. at 7 pm. Reservations are required as space is limited and so I know how many chairs to set up. Suggested donation is $15 per person, with all proceeds going to the musicians. Call Tracy at 522-3083 or email taloysen@aol.com for more information or to reserve a space.

Fiddler Ruthie Dornfeld's big tone, fierce rhythm and fluid style, along with a wildly eclectic repertoire, have won her popularity among dancers and concert audiences alike. Fluent in a wide range of traditional styles (Irish, American old-time, Scandinavian and Eastern European, for starters), she has performed and taught for over forty years throughout the U.S. and abroad, from the Manaus Operahouse in the Brazilian Amazon to the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland.

Accordionist Jeremiah McLane has a background in jazz, Celtic, Québécois, French and other roots-influenced music. In the early 1990s he formed The Clayfoot Strutters and Nightingale, two bands that have helped shape the sound of traditional New England roots music. He received National Public Radio's “favorite picks” award for his second solo recording, Smile When You’re Ready, and French music magazine Trad Mag’s “BRAVO” award for his fifth release, Hummingbird.

Owen Marshall (guitar, banjo, bouzouki) has accompanied and collaborated with many of traditional music's top performers including Aoife Clancy, Liz Carroll, Darol Anger, John Doyle, Andrea Beaton, Jerry Holland, Ari and Mia Friedman and his own traditional Irish trio “The Press Gang”. His music has appeared on NPR’s “The Thistle and Shamrock,” and BBC television. In addition to being a respected performer, Owen is in demand as a teacher at music camps throughout the US.
