Dear Stowe Families and Community Members,
We would like to share information about two upcoming events planned to discuss exciting capital improvements to Stowe Middle / High School.
The Stowe School District Capital Improvement Subcommittee is providing informational meetings on September 13, 2023 from 6-7PM and September 27th from 6-7PM to discuss proposed investments at Stowe Middle / High School. The meeting will be held in the Stowe Middle / High Auditorium and will be followed by a building tour led by members of the subcommittee.
Proposed investments include renovations and upgrades to the roofing, sprinkler systems, bathrooms, athletic fields, heating / cooling systems, parking lots, and interior spaces (including the auditorium). A new middle school gymnasium and track are also proposed in the preliminary designs.
The subcommittee has been partnering with local architect Black River Design for the past two years on this project which is the result of a comprehensive needs assessment first conducted in 2015 and revisited in 2017 and 2022. Prior capital improvement and bond discussions in 2018 were postponed due to supervisory union governance changes mandated by the State of Vermont and the subcommittee is seeking feedback before moving forward with a final design.
The subcommittee is composed of school board members, parents, community members, school faculty, and administration. Initial designs and cost estimates will be shared with the community at the meeting, prior to making a decision as to whether or not to bring the issue to the community for a bond vote on November 7, 2023.
