World War II Ceremony
A plaque honoring 5 Wells River men who died during World War II is to be unveiled on Thursday, September 14 at 6:00 PM on the front porch of the Wells River Welcome Center located at 5 Railroad Street.
The new plaque, acquired using a donation from the Wells River High School Alumni Association, will be uncovered and blessed during the ceremony. There will be a brief history of the five men who perished: Albert "Skeet" Bailey, US Navy, died on board the USS Princeton in the Pacific Theater, Donald D. G. Bidwell, killed on a RCAF base in England, Frank Farnsworth, killed while in the US Navy in the Pacific Theater, Robert Flanders, US Navy, killed at Okinawa, and Leo Lamare, an Army veteran killed in Luxembourg.
There will also be a firing squad salute and the playing of taps.
The general public is welcomed and encouraged to attend this ceremony. Some chairs will be provided at this outdoor gathering.
