Planning Commission Listening Session Monday Sept. 11

Past event
Sep 11, 2023, 5:30 to 7:30 PM

The Planning Commission will be hosting a listening session on housing on Monday, September 11 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. The Planning has been working on a number of different initiatives this year including beginning a process to make additional zoning amendments. Every year the Planning Commission identifies a number of changes to make to the zoning to clarify rules or to make new policy changes.

This year we need to make changes to comply with Act 47 (otherwise known as the HOME Act), make a few small changes to some zoning boundaries, and try to fix some problems that have existed in our sign rules. The Commission also continues to be interested in removing density as a requirement for housing in some zoning districts or areas of town. This is already the case for the downtown zoning districts and has been recommended by AARP and Congress for New Urbanism in a recent report to the City of Montpelier.

The Planning Commission has made no decisions on what housing proposals to move forward but they want to open the floor to the public to hear their ideas. What would you like to change? What would you like to keep the same? What questions do you have about the zoning regulations in general? The Planning Commission would like to hear from you and answer your questions.

Because the Council Chambers are not available at this time, this meeting will be held remotely over Zoom. Please see the Montpelier website for a link to the meeting Montpelier, VT | Official Website (Montpelier-vt.org). Please contact Mike Miller, Planning Director, with any questions about Monday's meeting at mmiller@montpelier-vt.org or call 802-262-6269.
