Calais Private Roads and Driveways Workshop

Past event
Sep 4, 2014, 6 to 8 PM

One of Worcester’s greatest resources is its many streams. Worcester also has many miles of dirt roads, public and private, that wind their way through and along these waterways. Unfortunately, dirt roads have a huge, often adverse, impact on our lakes and streams. You are invited to attend a workshop at the Maple Corner Community Center in Calais on September 4th at 6:00 to learn what you can do to protect Worcester's water resources and save money by reducing runoff and erosion from your driveway or private road.

In 2012, the Friends of the Winooski River and the Central Vermont Regional Planning Commission completed an assessment of dirt roads in East Montpelier, Calais, Worcester, Woodbury and Middlesex. In the report to each town, a number of high priority sites were identified and recommendations as to how to address the problems were provided.

There will be an overview of how to construct and maintain a good road or driveway. However, there will be a case study from Calais, near Curtis Pond, to give the discussion a local focus. We encourage you to bring photos and other information about your property. There will be experts on hand to give you tips and advice.

While not required, an RSVP to info@winooskiriver.org or 882-8276 is greatly appreciated. Please spread the word to your friends and neighbors!

Funding for the program is provided by the Lake Champlain Basin Program.
