Floods, Wildfire Smoke, Extreme heat! Either you have been affected by Climate Change in recent months or you know someone who has. These are extraordinary times that call for extraordinary action.
BURNING or BURROWING is the beginning of a community conversation about how we get the energy to heat our homes, schools and community buildings. This event is brought to our area in partnership with the Bethel Middle/Elementary School, the Bethel Energy Committee, 350VT and Two Rivers - Ottauquechee Planning Commission.
We need to stop BURNING things to produce heat and energy. Instead, we can BURROW into the earth beneath our feet to capture heat from the earth. Whether we burn fossil fuels or biomass, we are prolonging any meaningful action to reduce greenhouse gases. A far better alternative is to harvest the heat from beneath our feet and the excess heat from large buildings to create Thermal Energy Networks.
BURNING or BURROWING is one of the community conversations put on by schools in the White River Valley Supervisory Union. A free community meal will be provided. After the meal, we will have an interactive program and conversation that summarizes the problems with combustion and introduces the opportunities offered by Thermal Energy Networks. Childcare will be provided for the youngest children.

Whether you consider yourself well informed about Climate issues or you wish you knew more, you will find this time well spent. Those who come will have an opportunity to share opinions, learn from one another and discover concrete ways you can become involved.
Everyone is welcome, but, we are focusing on people from the towns in the White River Valley and Orange Southwest Supervisory Unions. In addition to the general public, local town and school leaders will be personally invited. In addition, all state Senators and Representatives from the towns represented will be invited. Our local and state elected leaders will have an opportunity to learn from the public they represent, whether in your town or in Montpelier.
