All are welcome to a very special screening of Vermont filmmaker George Woodard's second feature film, "The Farm Boy" at the Vergennes Opera House this Sunday, September 10, at 2pm. Tickets are available at https://www.flipcause.com/secure/cause_pdetails/MTg0Njg3
Earlier this year we screened Woodard's award-winning first film, "The Summer of Walter Hacks," which was produced and co-written by yours truly and originally premiered in 2010. Like his first feature, "The Farm Boy" was shot in black and white and takes place many years ago.
The story is told in two parts, the first part focuses on young Calvin Dillard's life in Vermont and the second on his time in Belgium. Calvin drives a milk truck for his father in rural Vermont during World War II. He marries a girl named Mary he met at a dance, yet barely has time to settle into marriage when he is drafted and sent to war in Belgium. While in Europe, he meets another woman, Renée, and his experiences with her change him in profound ways.
There will be an intermission with refreshments available and a Q&A at the end of the film with director George Woodard. All proceeds go to benefit the Vergennes Opera House All Access Project.
