Springfield Town Library is thrilled to announce the expected arrival of the new Youth Services Librarian on September 11, 2023, after an extensive search for the best candidate. Jeni Busby Clary has 7+ years of progressively professional library experience. Her most recent position was Circulation Manager at Brooks Memorial Library in Brattleboro. Jeni's responsibilities also included developing programs for adults.
Jeni previously worked in youth services and longed to return to her passion. According to her, "Having to be outside my comfort zone has undoubtedly been good for me, but I am eager to get back to what I know best and what suits my natural abilities: sharing my excitement about new ideas and new knowledge with young people and looking for creative new ways to empower them to explore their world."
As part of the interview process, Jeni presented a young adult program on stop-motion animation to members of the teen advisory group, who gave her the thumbs up. In her role in Brattleboro, she collaborated with the youth services librarian there and organized July's "All Ages Paper Airplane Derby." Jeni recently told the staff, "I'm percolating a lot of fun ideas for programs from birth to teens and can't wait to meet everyone to find out which ones they'll like best. And no one will be more excited than me at that first storytime."
Any new position has a transition period. Jeni will have her first four days to get acclimated to the library. Library staff will have a better opportunity to know her during a meeting on Friday, September 15th when the library will not open until 11:30. Jeni will be available to meet all visitors that Friday afternoon from 12-4. Stop in and get to know her.
