The Green Mountain Stage Race will be held this coming weekend on Sunday September 3, 2023. Unfortunately, roads they have used in the past were severely damaged from the recent storms and will not be repaired in time. The organizers have asked if they could pass through Duxbury using River Rd. as part of their route. The Selectboard approved this at our meeting last night.
The planned route is north on Route 100 to the intersection with Main St. in Duxbury then Main St. to River Rd. to Duxbury Rd. in Richmond. The first group should be on the road around 9:00 a.m. and the last group around 11:00 a.m. the road should be clear around 11:30 a.m. They will be travelling northward in one direction.
A little more about the event-they will have police or certified flaggers at intersections with turns. Each race group is typically led by a state trooper (they will have 9 groups in all). There is a rolling caravan for each group that includes USA Cycling officials to make sure racers follow the rules of the race. There will be officials on motorcycles and vehicles. There are over 720 participants this year making the event the largest stage race in North America.
We are putting the word out early enough so everyone can have a chance to plan for Sunday morning. The road will not be closed, the organizers ask that you be aware that the event is taking place and use caution in any turns with poor sightlines.
