St. Johnsbury Players will hold auditions for their fall production, "This Old House," Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday August 27-29 at 6 pm at the United Community Church, 1325 Main Street, St Johnsbury. This is a family production, and all ages and abilities are welcome.
"This Old House" is a musical farce written by Tim Kelly with music and lyrics by St. Johnsbury Academy alum Stephen Murray. Murray graduated in 1980 and was the first recipient of the St. Johnsbury Players' W. Clark Noyes Theater Arts Award. His parents, Sandy and Donna Murray, have been active Players members for many years.
This show has a large cast with a variety of characters. "This Old House" is about a middle-aged woman, Mona Babbington, whose large Victorian mansion is showing its age. Her nephew and niece are supposed to be caring for the house and the college students who rent rooms. Not only is the mansion starting to fall apart, but it is also revealed that Mona owes a large sum of money on the home, resulting in the cast of quirky characters coming together to save the mansion.
The show will be directed by Erika Thompson with musical direction by Barbara Connelly. Auditions will consist of improv games, readings from the show, and group learning of a song from the musical. The performance dates are October 13-15. Rehearsals will be Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesdays. More information can be found at stjohnsburyplayers.org.
